Settembre è stato il mese in cui ho faticato di più a stare al passo! Dal mio esame finale, alla fine della mia laurea, per assicurarmi il lavoro dei miei sogni qui in Italia.
Cominciamo con il mio esame finale. Ho trascorso l’ultimo anno lavorando per creare una collezione di moda che ritengo rappresenti al meglio me e il mio lavoro a livello di “Maestri”. Ho creato una collezione composta da dieci abiti da donna e tre abiti da uomo seguendo la mia narrativa e i miei design. Avendo un background nella sartoria su misura e desiderando fare riferimento alla mia eredità dell’inglese settentrionale, sono molto felice di aver inviato il mio messaggio con il mio ultimo lavoro. Disegnare, sviluppare, realizzare e rifinire a mano quasi trenta capi non è stato un compito facile, ma mentre i miei modelli hanno sfilato davanti a una giuria dei miei esaminatori, ho sentito un enorme sollievo. Il feedback che ho ricevuto è stato molto positivo e non potrei essere più felice di come ho lasciato il mio tempo a scuola.
In seguito, io e i miei compagni di classe abbiamo poi partecipato a una tradizionale cerimonia di laurea italiana completa di corone di fiori! Alcuni membri della mia famiglia hanno potuto volare via e partecipare ai festeggiamenti, incontrare gli italiani con cui ho trascorso tutte le mie giornate e visitare la città. Ho fatto un grande gruppo di amici qui e sono sicuro che rimarremo tutti in contatto e continueremo a sostenerci a vicenda in tutti i nostri sforzi.
Per me, questi sforzi includono il passaggio a uno stage presso la casa di moda dei miei sogni! Inizierò la prossima settimana nel team di design dell’abbigliamento femminile, lavorando a stretto contatto con il capo designer di questo marchio di moda italiano. Ho avuto il mio ultimo colloquio l’ultimo venerdì di settembre e ho lasciato lo studio con l’invito a iniziare subito e tante idee creative per il nostro lavoro insieme che hanno cominciato a sbocciare. Non vedo l’ora di riferire il prossimo mese con un aggiornamento su come sta andando!
September has been the month which I have struggled to keep up with the most! From my final exam, to finishing my degree, to securing my dream job here in Italy.
Let’s start with my final exam. I have spent this past year working towards creating a fashion collection which I feel best represents me and my work at a “Masters” level. I created a collection consisting of ten womenswear and three menswear outfits following my own narrative and designs. Having a background in bespoke tailoring and wanting to refer to my northern English heritage, I feel very happy that I sent out my message with my latest work. Drawing, developing, making and hand finishing close to thirty garments was not an easy task but as my models walked the runway in front of a panel of my examiners, I felt a huge amount of relief. The feedback that I received was very positive and I couldn’t be happier with how I left my time at the school.
Following this, me and my classmates then attended a traditional Italian graduation ceremony complete with wreath crowns! Some of my family members were able to fly out and join the celebrations, meet the Italians that I have been spending all of my days with and visit the city. I have made a great group of friends here and I am sure we will all stay in touch and continue to support each other in all of our endeavours.
For me, these endeavours include a move into an internship at my dream fashion house! I will be starting next week on the womenswear design team, working closely with the head designer of this Italian fashion brand. I had my final interview on the last Friday of September and left the studio with an invitation to start immediately and lots of creative ideas for our work together beginning to blossom. I am looking forward to reporting back next month with an update on how this is going!
