ENGLISH:

I have lived in china for almost 4 months. Last week was the first time that a Chinese person invited me for lunch. My students’ grandparents invited me for lunch. Recently I have not been eating Chinese food because right now I am eating healthy food and dieting. However, on this occasion I said I will eat Chinese food. My student is called lucy, that is her English name anyway, I don’t know her Chinese name.  Her grandparents did not have English names.  Lunch was fun and interesting.

Although Chinese restaurants and street food sell unhealthy food, Chinese families eat and cook a lot of healthy food at home.

They cooked a lot of vegetables including green beans and egg plant.  They also cooked rice and spicy noodles.  Unfortunately they also cooked a lot of pork which I do not eat. Chinese people eat a lot of pork. China grows 50% of the pigs in the world. I ate the spicy noodles, a little bit of rice, egg.  While they were eating their lunch, the men also drank a glass of Chinese vodka called baizhou.

I was very shocked.  The time was only 1 o’clock.  But I realised Chinese people love their baijiu.  Baizhou is a big part of Chinese culture.  I quit smoking one year ago but the men did not care. They forced me to smoke two cigarettes but in a friendly way. They could not speak English. I got an opportunity to practise my Chinese. They were very happy to have a foreigner eat lunch with them.
